Letter from the Founder: Employees Over Profit
Years ago I was a Partner at a well-known environmental consulting firm and though I was proud of the global projects I was leading, I was deeply unhappy. Put simply, the company's culture of profit at the expense of employee work-life balance had taken a toll on me.
That’s why, in 2015, I founded JBE. My vision was to build a consulting company that fundamentally prioritized the well-being of its employees. I believed that if my staff enjoyed a work-life balance on their terms AND were paid well, the success of the business would follow.
In my career I have experienced countless ways in which companies take advantage of their staff. JBE was born in opposition to it all. JBE is a revolutionary model of consulting in which:
Staff are paid for every hour they work, including overtime pay. No more working 60 hours and only getting paid for 40.
If you are targeted to work 20 or more hours per week you’re considered “full-time” and receive benefits. (It’s true!) Many on our staff are parents and find a 20 to 30 hour week lets them enjoy a meaningful career and quality family time, too.
Career growth is a major focus. Consultants select two primary areas of interest (practice areas) within our business and are provided regular training, enabling their careers to evolve in tandem with our ever-changing industries.
Plus, since we all work remotely, employees don’t need to uproot their lives to join our team.
JBE has been around for many years now, and I’m proud to say that its revolutionary model has resulted in both fulfilled staff AND fulfilled clients. I am humbled by JBE’s success, and the intelligent, influential team of consultants I’m proud to call my coworkers.
