THE CLIENT’S CHALLENGE
A private equity firm with a diverse portfolio of global assets spanning 13 different sectors faced the challenge of developing robust carbon inventories for each sector. The portfolio included companies in bus manufacturing, renewable fuels, logistics, vehicle body manufacturing, packaging, plastics, and more. The complexity of this task was compounded by the need to collect data across multiple companies, each with multiple facilities, within a single calendar year. Additional challenges included managing communication across numerous people, departments, countries, and languages, as well as the need for sector-specific knowledge to create accurate carbon inventories.

Carbon Inventories for Each Company: JBE created detailed carbon inventories for each individual company within the portfolio. This involved extensive data collection and processing to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Sector-Specific Expertise: JBE leveraged its deep knowledge across various sectors to develop robust carbon inventories tailored to the unique characteristics of each industry.
Communication and Training: JBE communicated the results to each company and provided carbon training to ensure understanding and engagement. This included setting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and tracking systems tailored to each company's sector, data availability and quality, climate ambition, and individual company culture.
Streamlined Data Collection: JBE established an efficient data collection processes to manage the significant data lift and facilitate communication across multiple stakeholders, departments, countries, and languages.
Repeatable Annual Process: JBE created a repeatable process to ensure that carbon inventories can be developed annually. This included standardized data collection templates, clear protocols, and training for key personnel to maintain consistency and accuracy year over year.
Integrated Management Plan and Change Management Process: JBE developed an Inventory Management Plan (IMP) and a process for dealing with changes. This ensures that any updates or modifications to the portfolio can be seamlessly integrated into the carbon inventory process, maintaining accuracy and relevance over time.
