Product Decarbonization Navigator

Our Product Decarbonization Navigator empowers you to measure and track emissions across your entire product portfolio at once — delivering actionable insights to fuel a smart, impactful decarbonization strategy.

1. Identify Decarbonization Opportunities

Discover where emissions hot spots lie across your product portfolio so you can focus your decarbonization efforts on what will move the needle the most

2. Forecast Emissions

We’ll conduct scenario modeling to uncover which decarbonization ideas will reduce emissions the most over time – and the magnitude of their impacts

3. Track Progress Over Time

Our team will update your Product Decarbonization Navigator results annually (or whenever you’d like!) so you can track your decarbonization progress on your journey to meet your climate targets

1. Identify Decarbonization Opportunities

The tool offers a detailed view of the emissions impacts of all your products, mapped across lifecycle stages, enabling side-by-side comparisons to pinpoint the most impactful decarbonization opportunities and track progress over time.

Curious about the impact of a product as the quantity manufactured changes over time? Toggle the weight produced for that product and see how the emissions change.

Customized for actionable results

Our priority is providing you meaningful results – that means every Product Decarbonization Navigator is carefully customized to the goals and data of the company. You choose the lifecycle stages to include and the focus of the analysis, whether it be individual products, product categories, brands, or all three if your data supports it! And we’ll get to work crafting your custom Product Decarbonization Navigator.

Unlock answers to key questions, such as:

  • Which products have the biggest carbon footprints?

  • What contributes the most emissions to my products? Raw materials, packaging, energy, waste, transportation?

  • Which materials embed the most emissions in each product?

  • Which manufacturing sites use the most energy when creating the same products or product categories?

  • Which product’s packaging has the biggest carbon footprint?

  • And more!

2. Forecast Emissions

Your team has loads of ideas for how to reduce emissions within your company – but which ones will move the needle?

Our engineers will perform scenario modeling on your top ideas to forecast their effectiveness in reducing emissions over time and quantify their impacts. The results will be integrated into your Product Decarbonization Navigator, providing you with crucial insights to prioritize your decarbonization strategies and maximize the impact of your efforts. This information can be a game-changer in driving meaningful progress towards your climate goals.

The Process

STEP 1

Free Consultation

Contact us and we’ll meet with you to discuss your products, decarbonization targets, and data availability. You decide the life cycle stages and the reporting level (products, product categories, etc.) that are strategic for your business.

STEP 2

Data Collection

We’ll collaborate with your team to collect the data needed. Often, this involves us meeting with many staff and providing educational trainings on sustainability and the project purpose. (Note: This step can take the longest.)

STEP 3

Calcs & Forecasting

We’ll tailor the methodology to provide you meaningful results with the type of data collected. We’ll also conduct scenario modeling on your top decarbonization ideas to identify which will move the needle the most.

Why Decarbonize at the Product Level?

The Product Carbon Footprint Navigator conducts product carbon footprints in bulk and reveals key opportunities for decarbonization. Here’s why it’s beneficial for decarbonization to have a lens into product-level emissions:

Competitive Advantage

Customers want to purchase products with lower embedded emissions. To stay competitive, companies are measuring the emissions associated with their products and working to reduce them. Our Product Decarbonization Navigator enables you to analyze the emissions impacts of products in bulk to make informed decarbonization decisions and track progress toward goals.

Actionable for R&D

Product-level emissions insights helps R&D teams optimize materials, manufacturing processes, and end-of-life strategies directly tied to emissions.

Improved Supply Chain Collaboration

Product carbon footprints facilitate discussions with suppliers on material choices, sourcing strategies, and process efficiencies to lower embedded emissions with granularity that is often difficult to achieve with Scope 3 inventory procurement data.

A note on corporate carbon footprints & LCAs

Corporate carbon footprints (scope 1, 2, 3 inventories) don’t provide insights into the emissions at the product level. Life cycle assessments (LCAs) do, but doing LCAs for your entire product portfolio can be cost-prohibitive, and frankly - LCAs aren’t designed for the purpose of decarbonization. Unlike corporate carbon footprints and LCAs, our Product Decarbonization Navigator was specifically designed to accelerate your path to decarbonization.

(However, if you’re looking to have corporate carbon footprints and/or LCAs conducted, we’re experts in those, too!)
