CASE STUDY
Carbon Footprint for Renewable Energy Producer
We developed a multi-year, comprehensive carbon inventory for a North American renewable energy provider.
THE CLIENT’S CHALLENGE
A leading renewable energy provider faced the challenge of developing a robust carbon inventory covering their North American assets for the first time. The client required a full Scope 1, 2, and 3 inventory, which involved significant data collection across multiple departments, people, countries, and business units. The complexity of gathering accurate and comprehensive data from diverse sources posed a significant challenge.
OUR SOLUTION
JBE partnered with the client to address these challenges through a structured and collaborative approach:
Data Gathering: JBE assisted the client in collecting data from various departments and business units. This involved interviewing key personnel to understand where and how data was generated and stored.
Data Processing: JBE processed the collected data, ensuring accuracy and consistency. This step included validating data sources and resolving any discrepancies.
Streamlined Data Collection Process: JBE implemented a streamlined process for future data collection, making it easier for the client to gather necessary information. This included creating standardized data collection templates and establishing clear data submission protocols.
Calculation Workbooks and Methodology: JBE developed detailed calculation workbooks and a robust methodology for quantifying carbon emissions. These tools were tailored to the client's specific needs and ensured accurate and repeatable results.
OUR IMPACT
As a result of JBE's comprehensive solution, the client now has a robust carbon inventory that covers their North American assets. This inventory enables the client to respond effectively to customer, investor, and other stakeholder requests for carbon footprint data for both new and existing wind, solar, and battery storage sites. The streamlined data collection process and detailed calculation workbooks have also positioned the client to maintain and update their carbon inventory with ease, supporting their ongoing sustainability and reporting efforts.
This effort has also positioned our client to be prepared for the emerging California climate regulation SB-253, which requires public carbon disclosures and third-party validation.
